4 x 5L Millmax 68 Viscosity Hydraulic Oil (Millers Oils) (2024)

FAQs

What is the difference between AW 68 and VG 68 hydraulic oil? ›

AW 68 hydraulic fluids have an International Standards Viscosity Grade or ISO VG of 68. This is the thickness of the fluid tested at 40 degrees Celsius. ISO VG 68 is on the heavier side for a hydraulic fluid which flows equivalent to a SAE 20 weight lubricant.

What does 68 mean in hydraulic oil? ›

The designation HLP 68 comes from the letter code "HLP" of hydraulic fluids according to DIN 51524-2 and the number "68", which refers to the standardized ISO VG class. These are hydraulic oils with anti-ageing and anti-corrosion additives as well as active agents for reducing friction and wear.

What is the best viscosity for hydraulic oil? ›

The appropriate viscosity range for hydraulic oil varies depending on the type of hydraulic system and operating conditions. Most equipment works optimally with an operating viscosity range of 13 to 860 cSt, with the best-performing viscosity of the hydraulic oil typically between 16 cSt (80 SUS) and 40 cSt (180 SUS).

What is the equivalent of hydraulic oil 68? ›

SAE 10W is equivalent to ISO 32, SAE 20 is equivalent to ISO 46 and 68, and SAE 30 is equivalent to ISO 100. As you can see, there is a bit of a difference between ISO 68 and SAE 30. The viscosity of the fluid largely determines the oil temperatures within which the hydraulic system can safely operate.

Can you mix 46 and 68 hydraulic oil? ›

As far as possible, it is always best to avoid mixing different hydraulic fluids. This is because the technical properties could be spoiled by chemical reactions between different additives.

Should I use 46 or 68 hydraulic oil? ›

ISO 46 Hydraulic Oil – ISO VG 46 Hydraulic Fluid is normally required for industrial plant working under high-pressure etc. ISO 68 Hydraulic Oil – ISO VG 68 Hydraulic Fluid is designed for use in systems which require a large load-carrying ability.

Which is better, hydraulic oil 32 or 68? ›

32 is thinner, No. 46 is medium and No. 68 is thicker. Generally speaking, if the temperature is low in winter, use #32 & #46 hydraulic oil with a lower viscosity, and use #68 hydraulic oil with a higher viscosity in summer.

Can I use hydraulic oil instead of hydraulic fluid? ›

Some people use hydraulic oil and fluid interchangeably, although that isn't always accurate! Hydraulic fluid can also include water, water-oil emulsions, salt solutions, and hydraulic oil.

How often should you change hydraulic fluid in a log splitter? ›

A lot of manufacturers will advise that you should change your fluid after every 50 hours.

Is it okay to mix hydraulic oils if the viscosity is the same? ›

Yes, so long as both brands meet specific requirements for the machine(s) they're being put into. Ideally, you'd use Cat's recommended oil in Cat machines, but if you decide to use, say, Shell Tellus, or even mix the two together (provided they're the same viscosity), you'll be fine.

What is the first rule of hydraulics? ›

Pressure is equal to the force divided by the area on which it acts. According to Pascal's principle, in a hydraulic system a pressure exerted on a piston produces an equal increase in pressure on another piston in the system.

What happens if hydraulic oil is too thick? ›

If the oil is too thick, it becomes harder for the substance to flow freely through the system, reducing its ability to circulate. In turn, it becomes more difficult for components of the hydraulic system to move properly.

Should you use transmission oils to replace hydraulic oils? ›

Transmission fluid IS hydraulic fluid. An automatic transmission is a hydraulic device. The suitability of the particular transmission fluid would depend on the hydraulic unit you want to put it in. If the operating temperature, flow rates, and operating pressure are close to the same.

What weight is 68 hydraulic oil? ›

What happens if you put engine oil in a hydraulic system? ›

Formulated without these characteristics, an engine oil will break down far faster and will quickly become ineffective. This will lead to damage to the hydraulic system, leading to expensive repairs or, in worst-case scenarios, the replacement of equipment entirely and the loss of a company's investment.

What is VG hydraulic oil? ›

ISO VG stands for “International Standards Organization Viscosity Grade” and is reported in numbers ranging from 2 all the way up to 1500. This number is critical because a lubricant's viscosity is the single most important factor when selecting the right oil for your machinery.

What is aw68 hydraulic fluid? ›

Everest AW-68 Anti-Wear Hydraulic Oil is a premium quality general purpose anti-wear hydraulic fluid containing a zinc/phosphorous additive to minimize wear and provides superior thermal stability, anti-foam, rust, corrosion and oxidation protection in high-speed, high-pressure vane, gear, and piston pumps operating ...

What temperature range is ISO VG 68 hydraulic oil? ›

Temperature (VG68)

Going back to our example, this means that with an ISO VG68 hydraulic oil with a viscosity index similar to that shown in exhibit 1 in the system, the optimum operating temperature is 65°C. Maximum operating efficiency will be achieved by maintaining fluid temperature in the range of 55°C to 78°C.

What is the viscosity of AW hydraulic oil? ›

Sinclair AW Hydraulic oils are available in five viscosity grades to satisfy all major hydraulic applications for anti-wear oils. These oils are formulated to the following ISO viscosity grades: 32, 46, 68, 100 and 150.
