I Need a New Small Bag

Posted on | September 20, 2006 | 20 Comments

092006_oldbag.jpg So while I am still hanging tough with my big commuting bag I am in desperate need for a replacement for my small “running errands” bag. I’ve had this Old Navy Braided-Cinch purse in khaki green for almost two years now and it has served me well. The perfect size to throw in my cell, wallet, camera and keys it was just the right weight to carry when running to the grocery store or going for a walk in the park. But recently it had gotten pretty tired looking and the braided handle is starting to look a little worn. So I’m shopping for a new small bag, something in a lightweight fabric with a lightweight price.

The leader of the pack so far is the Natural hobo from the Gap. Looks good and small, but full o pockets and with a nice contrast lining. I haven’t been able to see this bag in person yet because it hasn’t shown up at any NYC Gaps yet, and the Gap customer service is not help at all. (If you see this bag at a NYC-area Gap let me know: thebagblog at gmail.com!)

Banana Re has a nice plaid/suede bag that is worth an in person look. But besides that I am out of ideas.

Let me know if you have a great suggestion for the perfect small bag for me.

Hi! New reader and first time commenter! (:

Have you taken a look at Eddie Bauer? (http://www.eddiebauer.com) They have some cute bags this fall. I’ve picked up a couple of handbags from them in the past and they have proven to be long lasting and well made. Just a thought.

How about one of these as a “small running errands bag”?
    http://www.gammabag.com.au

    - Keeps your hands free, fits your essentials (cell, wallet, camera, keys, lipbalm) and is gorgeous! Practical glamour is not an oxymoron ladies. I’m sorry if this sounds like an ad but I can’t live without these bags now! It is so nice not having to HOLD a bag and not having to worry about the safety of my things (especially out at night), they’re all within easy reach. And they truly go with everything. Besides they’re so kitsch, they’re cool…

Let’s not call them what they are not…these are GammaBags; you can sling it, you can fling it, you can belt it and you can bring it. They really are for the woman who has everything…except 3 hands. Yes, I’m biased but I’m not wrong!

I really love that BR purse! I particularly like the T. Moro (dark brown leather).

I think this purse from Wilson’s Leather is ADORABLE:

You should give a few more details on your ideal errands bag (e.g. shape, material, max. cost, type of closure).

These might also be good places to check out:
Urban Outfitters, Nine West, H&M, Burlington Coat Factory, Filene’s Basement, FCUK, The Sak, Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor Loft…

I’m going to keep browsing…I could do this all day!

Check out Target.com. I found the perfect errand bag that I took with me on a trip. The one I have is black with two fronts pockets with gold buckles. The pockets have a velcro close. Inside the bag is really roomy and has a double long strap so you could use it as a purse or small messager across the body. The strap has gold grommets in a double row to keep it from slipping. It also comes in olive and denim blue and is less than $20.

I bought a great little “leather” bag at Old Navy. I got the black one. It’s tube shape with 2 little front pockets, and leather ties that hang off the “brass” hardware. They’re on sale which is the best part. ON’s website is down, otherwise I would send you a link. Hope this helps. Luv your blog!
