As of early July, The Bag Blog’s home office will be moving from Texas to Chicago! Based on our recent visit last week Chicago is a town that loves bags as much as we do. I saw a bag store on almost every corner, and I can’t wait to get back to the city and start exploring.

Posts may slow down a bit as we starting packing and getting ready to move. In the meantime, if you know of any great Chicago bag stores or designers please let me know.

Welcome to Chicago! soon anyway. No great bag stores jump right to mind, but don’t limit yourself to downtown. Shopping downtown is great, but so is shopping in the neighborhood boutiques, Bucktown, Lincoln Park, Oldtown, Lakeview, and on and on……

I lived in Chicago about 3 years ago, and on Milwaukee in Wicker Parker there were a couple of cool shops with lots of neat bags and shoes.

Don’t forget to eat the polish place on Damen@Milwaukee. Little old polish ladies will make your food, and it is wonderful. And cheap.

Hope you enjoy your new locale!

Congrats on the move. I have never been to Chicago but have heard great things about the place. I’m dying to visit. I’m excited to learn about the great shops over there. Please share what you discover!

Well, it’s not really a “boutique” (read: independent) type of store, but there’s a great purse store called “That’s Our Bag” on Michigan Ave. They actually have two stores, one on N. Michigan Ave and one on the south end…

They sell a pretty good assortment of moderately-priced purses. I bought a DKNY bag there.

I’m curious to read any future posts about good purse-store finds…

PS: I just realized that the pictures you posted are from one of the That’s Our Bag stores, aren’t they? (I recognize the display window; that’s kind of sad…)

“1154 Lill” in Lincoln Park is a great place for custom and ready made purses and accesories. Being a bag addict, I’ve designed and purchased five bags!

Welcome (in advance) to Chicago! Two local designers you should get to know…

    Cinnamon Cooper of Poise (http://www.poise.cc)

and Kathy Beymer and Heather Crosby of Carry Handbags (http://www.carryhandbags.com)

Neither has a storefront, but they do have online shops. If you’ll be here in August, definitely visit the Renegade Craft Fair in Wicker Park, and in November the DIY Trunk Show.

Also be sure to check out a gift boutique called Hazel. It’s on Montrose (4400 North) just west of the el (brown line). The owner has amazing taste in everything… I’ve picked up a couple one-of-a-kind purses there. Great jewelry too.
